What is the difference between Groups, Galleries, and Collections?

Groups, Galleries, and Collections are used effectively for organizing photographs.

Galleries

Galleries hold the actual photographs. Photographs are always uploaded into new or existing galleries. A gallery can have a description and access to it can be protected.

Collections

Collection hold links to uploaded photographs. They can include links to photos uploaded by one or many Zenfolio users.

The same photo can be referenced in several Collections without having to upload the photo many times. Collections are also great for saving together photos from several Zenfolio users taken at the same event or location. Or for collecting in one place the favorite photos on a specific subject.

Groups

Galleries and Collections can be organized into Groups. Groups are similar to folders on your computer: they hold galleries, collections and other groups.

How do you define Popularity?

The number of unique visitors determines photographer popularity, as well as the popularity of a gallery or a photograph. The more people view the photograph, the more popular it is.

A gallery is counted to have a visitor if at least one full size photo from it was viewed (viewing of thumbnails does not count). Photographer popularity is determined by the sum of all the unique visitors to his or her photographs.

How does the referral program work?

Any registered Zenfolio user can earn referral credit when someone opens a paid account and includes your referral code during sign up.

The new user receives instant $5 discount, and you receive a $5 credit toward Zenfolio services and products. There is no limit on the referral credits, so pass along your referral code to all your friends.

Referral credits cannot be redeemed for cash, but you may use them to pay for renewing your Zenfolio account, ordering prints, or purchasing other Zenfolio service.

Where do I find more Help on how to use my account?

Zenfolio account comes with complete online Help where you can find explanations and answers to most common questions.

What Web browsers are best supported by the Zenfolio site?

Zenfolio is a modern Web service and requires modern Web browsers. The site is best accessed using:

  • Internet Explorer version 7
  • Internet Explorer version 6.0 +
  • The latest version of Mozilla Firefox
  • The latest version of Safari on Mac OS X

Other Web browsers may work but are not actively tested.

Why do I see little chasing squares?

A small animation is used in place of requested images while the actual images are being downloaded.

If you have a slow Internet connection, or if you are experiencing delays in your Internet connectivity, you may see this animation more frequently. It indicates that the information has been requested and image loading is in progress.

If you see this animation displayed for a long time, clear Web browser cache and refresh the page, the problem will disappear most of the time.

What image sizes are available for each photograph?

Zenfolio takes the utmost care in providing the best quality display for uploaded photographs. Every photo is converted to seven different image sizes using the highest quality resizing algorithms available. Each photo is made available in the following sizes:

  • Regular thumbnail: 80 pixels along the longest side
  • Square thumbnail: 60 x 60 pixels
  • Large thumbnail: 120 pixels along the longest side
  • Small image: 400 pixels along the longest side for both horizontal and vertical photos
  • Medium image: 580 pixels along the longest side for horizontal photos, 450 pixels along the longest side for vertical photos
  • Large image: 800 pixels along the longest side for horizontal photos, 630 pixels along the longest side for vertical photos
  • Very Large image: 1,100 pixels along the longest side for horizontal photos, 850 pixels along the longest side for vertical photos

All images and thumbnails are available to the owner for direct linking, and are also used in visitor pages.

Visitors automatically see the largest size image that fits their screen based on the resolution and browser window size. Making the browser window small will result in a small image. Maximizing the window on a high resolution monitor will load the largest image possible. The Slideshow always displays the largest image size.

Can I download full size photographs?

Photographers may allow for the original size photos to be downloaded by visitors. This option is turned “ON” by default to allow visitors to print at home. Many photographers choose to disable this option to provide additional protection for their photos from unauthorized use. Contact photographer directly if you are interested in obtaining the original full size file.

To download, move your mouse over the photograph and select DOWNLOAD ORIGINAL from the slide-out menu.

I do not find some of the photos in public Search and Browse, but I can see them on the photographer Home page, why?

Photographers have an option not to include some or all of their photos in public search. This option can be applied to galleries as well as individual photographs. If not allowed in public search, the photos will not show up in search or Browse queries.

These photographs are still viewable by going directly to the gallery and photo pages.

How do I order prints?

To order prints, click the ADD TO CART button next to the photo you want to order. A new window with a list of available products will display. Select the product you are interested in ordering, provide quantity, and click CHECKOUT.

If you would like to add more photos to the Cart, select ADD TO CART AND CONTINUE instead, and continue to the next photo. When you are finished, select the Cart link from the top of the page and proceed to the Shopping Cart.

Some photographers do not allow for their photos to be ordered and disable this option. If that happens, you will not see the ADD TO CART button displayed next to a photograph.

Why do I see ADD TO CART button next to some photos but not all?

Photographers decide if their photos can be ordered by others or not. Some allow certain galleries to be ordered while others disable the ability to order prints completely. If that happens, you will not see the ADD TO CART button displayed next to their photographs.

If you are interested in purchasing a photograph but it is not available for ordering, contact photographer directly.

I live outside the US, can I still place an order?

Yes, absolutely! Just make sure to check the description of the lab to confirm it can ship to your location.

Will I have to pay sales tax when ordering?

Sales tax is charged on orders shipped to the recipients in the state of California in the USA.

I do not see paper options in the ADD TO CART window, where do I select paper?

After you add photos to the Shopping Cart, you will be able to make changes to the products and options, including specifying the paper to be used.. There are several paper types offered. Click the name of the paper in the Cart and you can read more details about it.

You can also change paper options for all the items at once by using the Batch Options link at the top of each section. Keep in mind that some papers need to be shipped as separate orders, and different papers may have different prices associated with them.

I want to order all photos from a gallery, how do I do that?

Navigate to a gallery page (where you see thumbnails only) and select ADD TO CART from the top. All photos from the gallery will be added to Cart in the print sizes you specify. You can then easily go through the list and remove the photos you do not want.

The print size I want says "Insufficient photo resolution," what does that mean?

If the photo you want to print was uploaded in the original size that is too small to be printed, you will see this notice displayed Insufficient photo resolution for this product. That means the photo is too small for the print size.

You may contact the photographer and ask if a higher resolution photo can be uploaded in order to order the print size you are looking for.
